Coring Equipment

Core sampling involves using special devices, most oftenly completely customized according to client needs. TDS has the experts to advise you with your coring system or core drilling tool, including diamond and wire-line.

Cores provide the most reliable information about lithology, petroleum, minerals, rock structure, fossil content, dip and tectonic disturbance. Coring increases drilling costs significantly so the core must provide the expected economical and geological information. Considering all associated risks and costs, you will need a reliable line of coring equipment, and you can find it only on TDS.

TDS has made available to you a coring system called “Quad-Latch”. This assembly secures all tubes in an outer barrel for drilling or sampling and to latch and retrieve on the overshot. This system has a very low number of mobile parts thus reducing the fail possibilities during drilling operation. The system allows circulation with few restrictions which is ideal for oil sands projects.  In the alternative, being without circulation for an extended time could induce a stuck pipe problem.  Quad Latch system is suitable for 4 5/8″ CP pipe and threads, and includes: latch head, inner tube, over shot and bearings.  All parts can be acquired through TDS.

Wire-line coring system is used in mining operations in all different types of ground. It allows placing a cylindrical core inside drill pipe and obtaining cores without the need to remove the drill rod string assembly each time for a sample. All cores are contained in a basket catcher which prevents the core from obtaining any damage. When core samples are ready to be collected, an over shot is lowered on the end of a ire line.  The over shot attaches to the back of the core barrel inner tube and the wire line is pulled back and the inner tube disengages itself from the barrel.

Three types of core barrels exist according to how many samples it can take: single tube, double tube and triple tube. Depending of the hole size, there are pipe sizes for coring equipment, they are: N (Hole size: 75.7 mm), H (Hole size: 96 mm), P (Hole size: 122.6 mm), B (Hole size: 60 mm) and A (Hole size: 48 mm.).
